Well, I have been talking with this girls for some time now and now even started talking about meeting. The problem is the usual. She cannot afford and travel expenses, so she want me to transfer some. I got her address but she doesn't have a phone. Could it be true that not everyone have a phone in Russia. I might be a bit cynical but it just seems strange! Also, do Russians need a special passport to travel abroad that they have to make for the occasion?

Oh yea Raven, you bet it takes a special visa for a Russian woman to come to america even as a tourist. In fact they are very hard to get. It seems that in the past, many young beautiful Russian women wanted to be tourists in the us for a short while and ended up marrying or dissapearing and never going back. For this reason it can be almost impossable to get a visa. In order to get one the woman must have a compelling reason to return to Russia such as a buisness and they are very suspiciouse of young women.
To be honest with you Raven, the scammer alarm is going off. I would go see her. I have talked to several Russian women and not one of them had a phone including the few scammers that wrote too.
Hope this helps and keep us posted!!!! http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Unless your lady lives in a village in the woods, she will have a phone 100% http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
And unfortunately we do have to get a special passport for travelling abroad.

Vicky, how easy is it to get a tourist visa to the USA for a single women. I have heard that it is nearly impossable?

Not sure, Serge, but i too think it's somewhere in the fantasy world that a single woman will be allowed to go the US as a tourist. I've been there twice but those both times were with business purposes, went there as interpreter. Consider also all those security measures the US are taking now. To get any visa to the US now we have to answer dozens of questions which we do not know how to answer.. like "list all your jobs for 10 last years, with exact addresses and phones..." - these 10 years cover two political epochs, most of enterprises that used to exist are no longer there, most of the companies are just for one year... and if we do not give info in full, we're considered suspicios. "List all your travels abroad for 10 years" - fine, but our foreign passports are valid for 5 years... I'm not a maniac to have all my travels recorded with exact dates. And many many more... Well, the US definitely do no like foreigners, put aside a suspicion that any single Russian woman travelling abroad has a "definite purpose" for this.

Thx for the answer. Just checking. I'll definetly visit her indstead. Still, I wasn't planning on inviting her to the US. It's too difficult and I'll anyway first be going back this summer. And yes, it is hard for foreigners to get into the country. Had a friend (former policeman in anti terror unit) kicked out at New York airport and had his visa invoked. And another was stopped by the FBI when he should enter. Both had valid ID and there's nothing suspicious about them. They were just told to prove that they weren't a terrorist or they were kicked out. It's a bit too much over there! Considering that most people in the US were foreigners to begin with, you'd imagine that they'd be more open!
I think that it's easier to meet somewhere in europe. Have heard that Egypt, Turkey and Greece should be fairly open for people from the former eastern europe!

You are definetly right there, Katya. I was thinking more about after you have met her, as it is impossible or almost for many foreigners to go to the US. Arranging to meet in US is just impossible!
It'll probably be best to meet her first and then work from there.
How much does a passport for russians cost? For foreign travel? Is these things expensive? I cannot imagine that it can be too expensive even though you rush it! Is it 30$ in all to get it straightaway??

Raven,
if the girl has a passport and agrees that you pay for the travel (but in this case you should have some good established contact with her) , so that she doesn't think she owes any anything, take her to one of those countries she doesn't need visa to, especially if she never visited them. A fortnight or a week by the warm sea far from her problems will make wonders.
Hi
you are right, Russian girl can live in the flat without telephone, specially if she lives in rented flat or in the hostel for those who come to study to big city from smaller town
And it is Russian reality. And if you want to find women from Russia I do not think it the best idea to start from being too suspecious. You can marry American girl who hasd telephone and no any problems with visa fir sure. It is your choise.

Sure Katya,
to go for such a thing a lady should be a bit adventurous, and hardly young. Having money for a trip somewhere does not directly depend on whether a lady travelled before or not, every person can afford some rest once a year, why not set the time which suits both, and not pay for the whole trip but help, since tours to these countries that do not require visa are not pretty much expensive.
As for being afraid - that depends on a lady. I once took a blind trip together with a man i never saw but to whom i talked for several motnths over the net. He wasn't prince charming, but was charming enough not to spoil my vacation http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
