Hello,

I am leaving the US on July 1st and should arrive in Khabarovsk to meet my "friend" on July 3rd. I have a 30 day visa.

Any advice such as: shoud I bring snack bars for myself (not used to Russian food), what should I bring for my friend as a gift, what customs are drastically different than the US, etc. Just throwing out thoughts.

Katya, my friend's name, is 17 hours AHEAD of me. Yikes!

I will be staying in Moscow (haven't reserved a hotel yet - not sure where to stay). I will be there on July 2nd and on my way back on July 28th and 29th.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Richard

Hi,

Did you say a clock?? Did you mean a watch? http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Sweets. I could bring candy from the US (hopefully they will not melt in my suitcase).

I am definitely bringing a digital camera. Here's a concern: I bought a power converter but are there adequate power outlets in the Russia Far East?

I was also told that it would be difficult for my visa to be stamped in the Russia Far East. However, from what I have read, I should give a hotel clerk $10 US and they will stamp it? Does this make sense?

One thing is for certain, I am jumping into a foreign land with no knowledge of the Russian language, a little knowledge of the culture and no knowledge of the food (except for borsch and I don't like beets - is this going to be a problem ;))

Thanks,

Richard

220 V all over Russia - that's for power
first time i hear about this way of stamping visas http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif i guess they should just issue a special registration paper which will be stapled to your visa, but who knows actually how things are in the far east..
there're lots of fast food shops everywhere, definitely there are several in Khabarovsk. Anyway, don't be adraid of russian food - nones' going to poison you on purpose, and russian food is pretty tasty, besides since Khabarovsk is close to the sea there must be lots of fish, if you're for fish http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
and for sure your girl will be just happy to introduce you to russian culture and language.

I know a Russian girl here in the US, and I have tasted her cooking, including some her 'traditional' dishes.

last year i watched a documentry about a couple of nz'ers going to russia to meet there 'girls'.......one of the places a guy went to was khabarovsk....sorry mate, is was'nt the flashest city in the world http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif ...heaps of babes though http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

lol vicky........sorry in my world of red-cross parcels, socks with holes in them and a bed made of straw, gold's decadent..............and katya, kangaroos only live in australia

http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

besides......i thought all you honourable, chaste, old-fashioned russian girls would be happy with a simple, but affectionate kiss on the cheek http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif liam

Hi , Liam!
Here, when we go to Guest at next house, we take something pleasure with us. Not because anybody talk to us , that we must do it - simply.. it is pleasure , to see, how people glad;))
If you will come with free hand , people will not pity to you. Nobody wait anything from you. But

Thanks to all who have given me advice. I will give a full report, for better or worse, when I arrive back in the US.

Liam, you are a funny person ;) Thanks!

I leave on July 1st. My visa doesn't arrive until June 27th. Cutting it close there. I shall return on July 30th. Probably not knowing what day it is with the 17 hour difference and all! http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Tytlal,
I normally survive on a diet of Shashlik and more Shashlik. We would call it a kebab, skewered lamb done over charcoal, pretty good stuff served with bread.
