Most countries will not believe that any foreign documents (birth certificates, etc.) are true and legal unless they are issued under apostille. For Russian and other CIS this general means that you must:

1. get the document notarised.
2. get an apostille certificate from the Department of State (if it is a state document) or the Secretay of State (if it is a federal document).
3. get the document and the apostille translated into Russian by a certified translator who is recognized by the Russian embassy or one of the Russian consulates. This translator will sew the apostille page to the original document.

I assume Ukraine is similar to Russia.

In order to marry someone in Russia (or Ukraine) you will need to collect several documents, get apostille for each one and the get each one translated.

I think it's safe to say that it concerns all countries of Western Europe and North America http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

All what you've mentioned is correct, just one more little detail- there is an expiration date for some translated documents and if you didn't manage to process them in time- you'd have to do it again http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif For example the certificate of none criminal records is valid for 6 months only, after you have to request new one. It took me 2 months to wait for one being issued by proper authorities, then (as they say in the embassy) not less then 3 months to be translated and validated by consulate and finally another 1.5 to get an apostil- 6 and a half months in total and you can just throw it to the rubbish bin- since by the time I've got it, it was already expired http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Anyhow, next time I used the company that's "embassy approved" to act on your behalf, there is one in every embassy, that's how they make money http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif But they do the job fast and it's guaranteed that in time, usually the embassy will give you their address and a phone number, it cost me around 600

The papers that I've mentioned above is not to get married, but to get her out of the country as your wife, the embassy will request all these papers and more after. http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
