Howdy all. How difficult is it to get a tourist visa for the USA from Russia for a 30 year old single mom? Are we talking impossible?

Is it possible to be visited in the USA by a Russian with getting engaged or being related?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Did I get something wrong?
I thought that a 'visa' was allways an 'entry visa', i.e. you need no visa to exit a country, you need a visa to enter a country.
The wording of several posts have made me uncertain.
Do the authorities of say Russia sometimes decide that a person cannot leave?

Eeyore,
I think you're picking on words rather than what sox what actually meaning.
Just for starters, a national of Uzbekistan needs a travel permit from the Uzbek authorities even if they already hold an international passport.
I'm somewhat naive regarding Russia & USA but my impression would be to answer yes, 'mission impossible'.

Thanks Martin for the information. Does it make a difference if she is a resident of an EU nation?

Sox,
Now I'm guessing she's living in one of the Baltic States but more importantly, what passport does she hold?
Here is the link the airlines & travel agents use, it's normally very imformative and also check the website of the US Embassy/Consulate of the county of her residence and/or passport.

Whatever, if she's from a 'poor' country she's gonna need a supplementary letter from yourself, for the visa application and for arrival through US immigration, to the effect that she'll be staying with you and you will support her during her stay.

I'm presuming the 2 of you have met previously in person and have photographic evidence, else we could be back to mission impossible.
