View Full Version : Selection by city

"Russia is not a country, Russia is a continent" a German reporter once said, and it's indeed a big difference whether a person is from Moscow of for exmaple Blagoveshensk. http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif So maybe it's an idea to add a selection of city to the options in the men's/ladies galary?

I agree with Arie's suggestion. It is well beyond large. I belive Russia spans 10 time zones and two continents.

I think more sections could make it easier to have more posts and more involment. I think Travel could be a good topic and I think Visa's both for the guys and the gals could be another.

But, if you were seeking a lady from Russia you would have to re-enter your search by the number of times as there are cities in Russia, you could, by then, be drawing your pension.

We'll add an option "any city" for such impatient people. http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

But practically speaking, if you want your paperwork to be easier, it's more convenient to look for a girl from Moscow or Saint-Peterburg (where embassies and consulates are located).

Arie,
And what about Ekateringburg where consulates are located also.

Seriously, if you're going to restrict your search to Moscow or SPb then you're very likely to meet a lady with expensive tastes, do you appreciate what the cost of living is in these cities?

When I've searched and because my geography is quite good I rule out ladies from the far east, simply because I get bored on aeroplanes but if you shouldn't restrict your search to ladies with a consulate on their doorstep.

Your better off searching for ladies from small towns, a small town rather than a big city mentality.

I have spent a long time hunting for my gal and have had a lot of differerent thoughts about it. When I first went to Russia, Ukriaine and Belarus in 1996 the economy was bad everywhere. Irina one of the gals I met in Kiev was in training to be a Customs inspector. Once she started her job she would be making $ 70.00 a month. Natasha the gal I visited for 4 days in Vitibisk Belarus worked in a shop and made $ 45.00 a month working full time. A doctor in Moscow made $ 200.00 a month. Even with that low pay people were often not getting paid at all or were being paid months late.

The economy has improved a lot. Many women sort of put on a poor mouth but I think in the Bigger cities such as Moscow and St Petersburg there are lots of jobs in the $ 500 a month range. In Kiev the town is definately happening but the saleries are lower. Probably a secretary makes $ 200 a month. My gal in N. Novgorod makes $ 200.00 a month.

Why should a woman want to go through all the hastle of marrying an amercian guy. The answer is to have a better life. To have life where she does not have to worry about money and a life where she has a husband who will treat her well. Well the truth of the matter is that if a gal lives in St Petersburg or Moscow, she can live pretty well so there is not as much incentive. There are nice guys there and their friends and family are there. The gals where the economy is not so good have a much greater reason to seek an american gal.

Next take a look at the posts on the discussion forums. Where do the guys say they are going. Moscow, St Petersburg, Kiev and occassionally Odessa, Dneprovisk, or Sevastapol. Do you see guys going to Perm or Omsk or Kazan or Etkatranburg or Vladivistock, or N. Novgorod. These are cities with millions of people and thousands of gals that would like an American husband. The competion is less the reasons for wanting a man are better. I have been most of those places in my search and I hope that N. Novgorod was the last place I need to go.

If it is your first trip you will probably be more comfortatble going to the big cities that are full of americans. I really think to limit your search to these cities is a mistake.

Turboguy, When you mention salaries, please have in mind that money can buy a lot more in FUS. My experiments are that money can buy three times more. Or at least two times more.
Remember that in FSU they have a two-side economy. A black and a with.

Hi Nordsyd,
Yes, I agree with you. I would hate to try to live in San Jose on $ 500.00 a month but in Russia you can do fine. I was more making a point that in the 8 years I have gone there the saleries have increase about 400% and these days most people even get paid. They are masters of getting by and many familys live together becuase it helps financially. The gal in Belarus I visited in 1996 had the mother and father living in the same flat even though they were divorced and he had a girl friend. Survival is a good motivator.

Hello Martin,

I think that Western men don't have to be very modest, we can easily compete with Russian guys from big cities like Moscow and Sint-Petersburg. Of course I'm not as rich as Khodorkovsky in his golden days, but money isn't everything. At least not for the girls I like to meet. http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Although spending money is not bad, memorizing one of Pushkin's poems will thrill girls much more.

The mentality in big cities is indeed a bit different: maybe both men and women expect more from life. But I can only agree with that.

My dates with girls from the "province" (cities the size of Amsterdam or bigger - like Nizhnii Novgorod and Kirov) ended not very successfully. While contacts in Moscow and SPb were really great, they easier accepted differences in cultures.
I really had the impression that the provincial girls expected some Russian 'muzhik' (guy) who happen to speak English. And because of their lower salaries, they're rather materialistic.

The cost of living is indeed higher in Moscow or Sint-Petersburg, but still cheaper than in for example Amsterdam (where I live). Besides, the girls in Moscow also earn more money to compensate for that.

As a personal note: I've already found many girls on a huge Russian-speaking website (anybody can mail me for the link). In the beginning it seems nice to write with a girl from let's say Tomsk, but in 99% of the cases you won't travel there to meet her. From a practical point of view Moscow or Spb are easier.

How many times have you been in Russia?

Arie,
If you're looking for somewhere convenient to get to why not try Den Haag, Leiden, Rotterdam etc?

You're theory behind Moscow or SPb is for ease of paperwork if/when you meet a lady. Are you working on a short budget, with consulates in these 2 cities and Ekaterinburg it's a relatively short flight, from many more cities, for her to get to a consulate, or indeed for you to get to her either direct from Amsterdam or from Moscow.

Do you realise how cheap airfares are in FSU? In December & January I paid something around 25 Euros for a 1hr 20min flight.

You ask how many times I have been in Russia, the answer is 'never' as yet. This said, I have been to FSU many a time including 4 trips to Ukraine last year, during the first of which I travelled 550km each way across Ukraine and back in a chauffeur driven Volvo limousine for a cost, I recall, of USD165 per journey.

And no, she's not from Kiev, where the consulate is, she's from a regional city but it's not a problem, flights to Kiev are something like 25 Euro's each way, a very cheap price to pay for happiness.

Personally I think if I were to find the right lady, which I hope I have done, I would go anywhere and the consulate is not something I would even think about. I have been to Russia so many times I can't count and gone to places like Ekaterinburg and Omsk and Perm. The nice thing is that we can all have our own ideas about what is important to us and there is no right or wrong. If it works for us, it was right for us.

I have made a lot of trips to the big cities. I have to admit I liked paying $ 30.00 for my dinners in Kiev much more than the $ 200.00 most of them were running in St Petersburg.

My theory this year was to avoid the more popular places that everyone goes and concentrate on the more out of the way places. It worked for me but we are all individuals.

I am sure you have all put a lot of thought into how you want to go and if it dosn't work there is always plan B

Hi Martin,

finding a princess around the corner in Den Haag is indeed less adventurous. But well, I once had a girlfriend from Moscow (we met by accident in ICQ) and it does open your eyes to a whole new world. Although I studied Russian language before, so the country and culture always had my interest.

Money is not a reason to stick to bigger cities, like mentioned before, life in Moscow or SPb won't allow short budget anyway. I just like the atmosphere more in such cities (I really fel in love with St.-Peterburg). Besides, if it doesn't happen to click with one girl, there are plenty of options to spend your evening. Also the differences in mentality seem to be smaller.

You've already seen much of Ukraine, I've been in Russia three times - visiting in Moscow, Sint-Peterburg and Bryansk.

It also depends on the purpose of your trip: I wanted to combine a snowy holiday with some nice dates, in such case both Moscow and SPb have a lot to offer. But of course there's no right or wrong way to meet your princess, life is unpredictable anyway.

My wife is from Omsk. There are lots of single women in Siberia who are looking for North American and European husbands. I suggest to anyone that it is worth the time and effort to pick up Take Off In Russian by Oxford Press and put in a few months to get a solid intermediate level of Russian together and then hit towns other than Moscow and St. Petersburg. Although women may be able to write to you in English ( and they slave with their bilingual dictionaries to do so, believe me...) , they will greatly appreciate the effort you put forward to learn some basic Russian. And you will be much happier when you are there, believe me!! It's not as hard as you might think...

Perhaps we should just clone women and stock them in supermarkets. It'll save on all that uneccessary travel, immigration visa's and the hardest decision, should I go to Moscow or SPb!
The only decision one would need to make is which supermarket to go to and when? Well it's simple, go for the one that gives bonus points and in January, things seem to be cheaper in January.

I suggest you go to Lugansk, or Kherson in Ukraine or Omsk and Tomsk in Russia, usually in the small town you have better
chances in finding real people not jet spoiled by the big city
attractions and fashion and values.

if you need help, let me know.

I have just read your debate of cosmopolitan cities versus smaller ones.

my feeling is you will be able to decide only by experience:

lets say you have 2 weeks in russia. why don't you spend 1 week in a Moscow /StP, and the other week in the "countryside"? you can experience both, and experience will give a reasonable basis to decide what to do next!

i have used this website for about 2 months now,and although i find the actual website very good,i find that most of the women are of inferior standard.I also think that these Soviet states are a laugh asking for money to enter. They should be giving people money to go there, its not as if they are tourist hotspots with people queing to get in.I have had correspondance in the last 2 months with ladys from Russia,Ukraine, etc, etc, and i have been none too impressed with any of them.So it looks like i will be holidaying in my beloved Thailand again, and a quick note to all the guys out there that have wasted money frequently yo yo-ing back and forth to soviet states-forget it!Take your ass to Thailand, the women are beautiful, all looking for a foriegn husband-sincerely- and they make you feel like a king.I return in 5 weeks.Russia and its provinces.too cold and so are your women.Bye!
