Nordsyd, it's indeed a pitty if money plays such a big role. I think such marriages/relationships won't last long.

When I was in both Moscow and St.-Petersburg during my holidays, I was amazed how well young people can live over there (I agree that I don't have really poor friends http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif). The cost of living is much lower in Russia, so with a salary of 500 dollars you don't have to feel poor. Combined with the rising nationalism in the last few years (or "patriotism" as Russians call it), many want their future in Russia.

Maybe there's also a cultural difference: in Europe your salary and your job are not as big part of your identity as in America.

when i was corresponding with my wife (mostly email) her computer died. i offered to send money for a new one. (we had been writing for at least 6 months) she refused and was really mad at me for offering.

the only time she allowed me to pay for anything was when i saw her in russia for the first time.

but that doesn't mean money isn't important. all couples argue about money, it doesn't matter how much or little you have. and it doesn't matter where the people come from.

her income there was about 1/20th what mine is but her standard of living was almost the same in russia as in michigan (and the unemployment was less in russia! http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif )

It is a big mistake to be presumptious that the lady needs monetary support.

But if the relationship proceeds, sooner or later both people have to stop thinking in terms of "mine" and "yours" and start thinking about "ours" However, before that time comes, asking for (or offering) money is probably not a good idea.

Slovakia was even worldchampion in hockey a few years ago. Small countries can even rock in this game.
