I read the following article on Monday, and would like someone who is living in Russia to confirm that it is true or not.

Russians who wed foreigners should be exiled?
Mon Jun 6, 2005 9:24 AM ET

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russians who marry foreigners could be exiled and
stripped of their citizenship under a bill being drafted by a group of
members of parliament, a deputy said Sunday.

One of the bill's authors, Duma deputy Nikolai Kuryanovich, a member of
the ultra-nationalist LDPR party, admitted parliament was unlikely to
approve the measures but insisted they were necessary. "Our women, the
most beautiful and best in the world, are going abroad. By doing this,
they are wasting the most valuable thing we have -- the gene pool of
our nation," Kuryanovich told Ekho Moskvy radio.

But while condemning women for going abroad, he also said he did not
want people bringing foreign spouses to Russia either.

Newly-weds would be forced to go and live in the country where their
spouses were from, Kuryanovich said, to protect Russia from "an
invasion of alien elements."

"Adapting to life in Russia ... foreigners impose their own rules,
which are unacceptable to us," he said.
Since the fall of Communism, the numbers of Russians marrying
foreigners has increased significantly and a poll cited in respected
magazine Ogonyok last year said one in three 17 to 25-year-old girls
wanted to marry a foreigner and live abroad.

The LDPR party's leader, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, is known as a maverick
who enjoys stirring up controversy and has traded punches with fellow
deputies during parliamentary sittings.

I am not russian, nor in russia, but I recognize an idiot politician trying to make headlines when i see one.

any dumbshit can draft legislation and hold a press conference. that doesn't mean that it will go anywhere other than the trash can.

Vladimir Volfovich Zhirinovsky is a controversial Russian politician, and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (which has very little in common with what Westerners call liberalism).

He was a long-time KGB operative, of a Jewish father, and speaks fluent Turkish.

He advocates, inter alia, the re-incorporation of the former Soviet republics and Alaska through the use of military force, as well as invading and occupying Iran. He has also praised Adolf Hitler's rule and encouraged the use of nuclear weapons against possible adversaries. He has been known to make public anti-Semitic remarks, despite his Jewish origins.

Thank you for your answers, folks. It helps to explain the reason that my friend cautiously advised me to be careful on my trip to Russia. I amaze that such politicians are allowed to hold political positions in today.

Our friend Zhirinovsky has some more lightbulb moments, a small collection of his ideas:

"Zhirinovsky praised Adolf Hitler's ideology of National-Socialism in an Izvestia article. One of his books, "The Last Thrust to The South", advocates military aggression against Russia's Southern neighbors as a way of achieving political stability in the region. Vladimir Zhirinovsky made headlines by threatening to take Alaska back from the United States, nuke Japan, and flood Germany with radioactive waste."

Luckily his political influence is not that big.

i would not worry about traveling in russia at all. my wife lived in severodvinsk which is on the white sea. it is also home to a submarine base and is officially off limits to foreigners.

i have been there twice and have passed through the check point coming into the city a half dozen times, openly walked the streets and dined in many restaurants. not so much as a blink from anyone. i have even posed in front of the statue of comrade lenin in the town square http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

the bureaucrats will look the other way if you give them a chance. when i had my passport validated i did do it in Arkhangelsk, a city that i was legally in. but other than that, i had no issues at all.

first of all, there was nothing connected with Vladimir Volfovich Zhirinovsky , so boys, you're dreaming about something here http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
the next thing, it's not a wish to make screaming headliness. it's true. russia has it's own very old traditions and she likes to keep them, it's the only thing why i respect Putin for his almost autocratic control in the country. but somehow i lazy today to write, so i'll end my post in the evening..

Any reason is good enough to remember our beloved tovarish Zhirinovsky. And his party is taking part anyway:

"One of the bill's authors, Duma deputy Nikolai Kuryanovich, a member of the ultra-nationalist LDPR party"

Shouldn't Russia work on changing their traditions, instead of dreaming of the past?

And often is his gold complexion dimmed,
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course untrimmed:
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,
Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st,
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee."
