I was going to study in Moscow next summer, but now I got a scholarship to go for a whole semester...wherever I choose.
I would like to hear which city would be better for a grad. student Moscow vs. St. Petersburg or even something else.
thanx

StP is the nicest city in Russia, the "cultural capital of the country", lot of contemporary artists, in my opinion the night-life is more exciting.
Moscow is the biggest city, the "financial capital" of the country. If you focus on career but nothing else than it would be a reasonable choice.
If I were you, I would choose StP as it offers a nicer athmosphere for spending a semester and also you may enjoy a better location for trips to Estonia, Finland etc. - while in Moscow you are a little bit of land-locked.
Stp - the quality,
M - the quantity.
Choice is yours http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
I agree with Alex.
I've been to Moscow 3 times, and this januari in St.-Petersburg for the first time, and the latter was a very pleasant surprise. The atmosphere in St.-Peterburg is friendlier and more open-minded - as they say, it's Russia's most European city.
Moscow is very beautiful and impressive, but (for me) the center of the city is rather spoiled by too many new Russians, millicioneri (police-men) checking passports of Caucasian people and Western tourists, and government security everywhere.
The night-life in Moscow is also great, but more scattered, you often need the metro or a car to go from one place to another. The center of Petersburg is more compact, both for shopping and culture.
Do you have any friends in either cities?

No I do not know anyone or any Russian. I pretty much traveling in the dark, but it doesn't overwhelm me. Everywhere I travel (for the most part) is in the dark.

well i may also say the atmosphere in Piter (like we call it) is friendlier and more open-minded and if to compare it with moscow its a more calm city, life their is not so fast and crazy and some say ppl there even speak slowlier http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
but i think i wont be able to live there after i have lived in moscow ))) they are too different...and i dont know any russian who would enjoy living in both of them the same much
as far as the cultural thing yes St.Peter is outstanding!!!

[QUOTE= (alex33 @ Sep. 16 2005,23:31)]maybe you could offer Piter to Finland, it would be "abroad", so you could travel to the Finnish city of St. P

I have a feeling that I will go to Petersburg...What site can I go to meet people at...THe only I can find is stupid pay sites for dating russian girls.
I would love to meet russian girls ahead of time, but I'll pass on paying $10 a month for something that might not materialize into anything.
If you can click your way in a Russian site, you can try:
http://www.love.vengo.ru/
It's a huge Russian site (they claim to have more than a million members), it's free, and you can sort people by city.

Unfortunately, I do not know Russian. That's is part of studies when I get out there though. I tried some free personals through this site's links, but all the women want to meet men over the age 25, and they want guys who are ready to have families. This is definitely not for me. I'm clearly financially comfortable, but I don't like to open an introduction like that.
I have sort of given up with meeting Russian people through the net. I just post on this site now...asking questions here and there.

Well, like most experts I'm only good in theory. http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif But I'm always glad to help.
I've visited Russian chats for about 2 or 3 years, and this Vengo-site I discovered last year. Partly it helped to get my Russian back in good shape (chatting in Russian), I've met some great people, who are still friends.
And well, you never knows when Cupid strikes you with his arrows. Right now, my boss loves me too much, keeping me too busy http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Only Firedancer can save me...

Yes, languages are my hobby. I studied Russian for one year at the university here in Amsterdam, zabil nemnogo, no seichas uzhe govoryu luchshe http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
I speak some French as well (it's of course the most romantic language), Slovak, and of course good old Dutch.
How are your plans to stay abroad for a few months? I've met some Russians who worked in Belgium and here in Holland, they were part in some international exchange program. Or would you like to do some studies?
