Hi all... just joined up and got a big question. I went to Saint Petersburg last Sept. Lady and I didn't work out. Now I would like to meet someone in Tashkent. Has anyone on this forum travelled to Uz. lately? If so would like recommendations on Airline, hotel and any other pertinent info I might need.

Hi Nmnative,
I haven't been to UZ lately, last time I was there was in 2003, I was there in 2001 also.
Right, where do we start, right put your clock back about 20 years for starters!
Air Travel is somewhat restricted and not knowing where you will be travelling from I travelled there twice, from UK, on Turkish Airlines via Istanbul. Turkish Airlines have a codeshare agreement with American Airlines so if you're in the US that might help.
Turkish are OK but the bastards lost my case in Istanbul, for a week!, thus, in the heat of an Uzbek summer, I had only the clothes etc. that I stood in!
Other carriers into TAS include British Airways from London (not to be recommended, they stop en-route and it's a bl00dy long way in a narrow bodied aircaft (8+ hours), Aeroflot, Uzbek Airlines & Transaero from Moscow (but you would probably need a Russian transit visa) and Uzbek Airlines operate internationally to Europe & JFK but trying to book on them is a nightmare and they are expensive.
Don't book direct with Turkish, they are expensive (like most airlines), browse the online travel sites for the better prices.
The only decent hotels in TAS are the top of the range ones, Sheraton, Inter Continental etc. and you pay big bucks for them!
Both times I've been there I've stayed in apartments for perhaps USD30 per night, when staying in an apartment you need to, on your first full day, register locally with the police, a lot of bullshit but only something like USD20. The lady should be able to organise an apartment or for a selection of hotels in FSU try:
www.besteastern.com
My first visa application was sponsored by the lady in question, the 'invite' type thing, my second visa (a different lady) was done through an UZ tourist agency, I needed to WU the lady something like USD30 to pay the agency but it all went pretty smoothly.
One trick, because they want to know where you will be staying is, once the agency or the lady have done their application you then need to apply for your visa, to the UZ embassy, quoting the reference number. Before you do this go to www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/index.html and book yourself (online) at the Sheraton in Tashkent and make a print-out of your confirmed reservation to submit to the embassy. Sheraton will hold it on, but not charge it to, your credit card, just make sure the room can be subsequently cancelled and once you have your visa you go back to the site and cancel your reservation!
For any visa, including transit visa, requirements here is the magic site that all the airlines & travel agents use:
www.delta.com/planning_reservations/plan_flight/international_travel_information/visa_passport_information/index.jsp
What else to say, well foreign currency exchange takes place in back alleys on the black market, a better rate of exchange than the banks. Credit Card usage is not commonplace so don't depend on your plastic, the cost of living, to us, is extremely cheap and like most big cities of the world, don't walk down dark alleys etc. after dark.
Anything else then you can 'private message' me.

No idea if this post will act as an Edit-inhibitor for previous posts, but worth a try...

"Turkish are OK but the bastards.."
(Source: http://datingtalk.info/cgi-bin....rd.cgi? (http://datingtalk.info/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?) act=ST;f=3;t=592; )
So this gives us Turkish bastards, Somali shits, and apparently Pakistani's closely resemble Turks.
Naughty naughty matey, and utterly stupid as well. Remember Frogs...

Thunderdome,
Is this the best you can come up with you sad individual, at least copy and paste the subject matter and not just 6 words. For the benefit of others, those that like to hear, rather than distort, the truth here is the subject matter:
(Air Travel is somewhat restricted and not knowing where you will be travelling from I travelled there twice, from UK, on Turkish Airlines via Istanbul. Turkish Airlines have a codeshare agreement with American Airlines so if you're in the US that might help.

I referred to 'Turkish' as bastards and not 'the Turkish'. It is a commonplace abbreviation to identify an airline by one name or some initials, it could be Turkish, Delta, American, BA, Aeroflot etc. One doesn't repeatedly refer to them as Turkish Airlines, Delta Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Aeroflot Airlines and so on.
Therefore, and Thunderdome knows this damn well and for this reason he made a lamebrain attempt to distort the truth, my reference of 'bastards' was made towards a company and not towards a nationality nor an individual of that nationality.
Run back to your 'backslappers little boy.

Now, to get back, I hope, to the subject matter in hand:
