If anyone cares about going the whole route with this I can tell you from personal experience, it can work for you. I went to Feodosia, Crimea, Ukraine to Meet Lyudmila after writing for six months via E-Mail. I stayed in her flat with her and her son for another six months before I brought her and her son here in Dec. of 1998 and we were married in January of 1999.
I wrote a book about the experience. There are about 150 pictures in it illustrating what it's like to live as a Ukrainian, in a Ukrainian town.
