Hello everyone...The divorce rate in the US is now hovering around 50%. Marrages usually are finished here buy the two year mark and I was wondering if these numbers were comparable in the CIS countries.
I was also wondering if anyone was aware of any studies that have been done concerning the mail order bride phenomenon. I am aware of one that was done by the INS in 1997. It found that 80% of the international marrages were still intact after the five year mark. The numbers sound impressive but the sample for the study was rather small. I think 1700 people were polled for the survey.

Hi Katya,
Do you remember where you found these statistics? I too am investigating the success vs failure of marriages that began as internet/mail correspondance (does not have to be FSU/America). Thanks.

This board is full of intelligent people, so I do not want to insult anyone
I looked up some statisics. (divorces in the US)
Current divorce rate: %43
Projected divorce rate for current marriages: %50
*Median* length of marriage before divorce: 7.2 years
But the curve is skewed with more marriages ending in divorce earlier rather than later. So the *average* length of marriages should be actually higher than 7.2. But I could not find this specific statistic for some reason.
And one additional, interesting statistic is:
Divorce rate for second marriages: 60% (don't know if this is current or projected)
Of course, these do not represent international marriages, but all marriages. It seems that nobody is keeping track of international mariages.

I read somewhere that here divorces are quite often within first year of marriage, or after 10-11 years... Reasons for the latter might be different.

Thanks for the info everyone http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Interesting that the divorce rate is higher in the second marrage. One would think that with all the "lessons" learned from the first experience, they would be in a better position to make the second one last.

I think it is more like the old saying:
"You are only a virgin once"
Once you have done something the first time, the stigma is reduced the second time. The wall has been knocked down, so to speak.
