I have 6 different women which I would like to see this fall in FSU. 3 are willing to meet in Moscow, 1 in Kazan, 1 in Minsk, and the other in Tashkent. There probably have been a lot of posts about this, but I need advice. Don't do it? Do it but have some game plan which I can't seem to figure out? I need help.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help :)

Yes, you need help indeed.
Irrespective of where you live, print a transparent map of your country and put it on top of the map of Russia. Keep them the same scale and mark Moscow, Kazan, Minsk and Tashkent.
See?

The second problem you have is when you now will decide (quite likely) on only the 3 Moscow women. Who will pick you up from one of the airports, and how do you think will the other two react to that? Oh, you won't tell them, clever. But I'll tell you now they will either know or find out, so best would be to say adieu to those two now.

The third problem is, if you do not know who you might like best, or do at present, don't go for starters. A kid in a candy shop is just that, a kid, incapable of making desicions which might well affect the rest of his life. Blinded by the gorgeous wrappers but limited by his money he often chooses quantity. Are you sure there's only 6 women you'd like to see?

You're new to this? And let me guess, you've never been to the FSU? Then flip a coin, go and see one, and learn from that. If you cannot afford such then this is not for you.

@Troon, it depends of what you've written in your letters ("you're my only one, I love you" which you should'nt write anyway), but I don't think the girls will be shocked if you tell them that you'll have several dates.

Only in reality you can find out if it clicks with a certain someone, and it's silly to bet on one horse only. Big chance is that they're writing with several guys as well, so they understand :)

Thank you for your thoughts. I have read both books by Elena Petrova and her husband John. She suggests seeing only one as the women are not stupid and most likely will figure out what I am doing. Thunder, I cant answer any of your questions. That's why I am wondering if someone does have answers to questions like yours. I can afford to fly and stay for an extended period, but I am hoping multiple trips will be limited.

John the husband, as Arie suggests, says not to put all of your eggs in one basket and there are ways of planning which will "potentially" avoid too many problems. On their website, they claim they know how to get around the problem of each woman knowing what I am doing...which is, meet each one, and in person, determine who I like the best...or who likes me the best:)!

But of course, they want you to book a travel plan with them. I thought someone has accomplished a meeting with multiple writing partners and found success instead of rejection by all of them! No I have never been to FSU, but each woman claims they will be my guide, interpretor, and (safety net). And I certainly tell none of them I love them. I think that would lend to unnecessary suspicions. And how could you love someone truly, that you have never met? Only one has asked if I correspond with other women. And I suspect Arie is also right, they all most likely correspond with dozens of guys...and I dont ask!

And actually yes, Thunder, I would like to meet 2 other women. Another woman wants to meet in Dnepropetrovsk and finally one in Krasnodar. There is definitely a systemic problem here. But with all of the potential pitfalls described by Thunder, there must be successes also? Does anyone have one to share? Thanks everyone :)

It's indeed a dilemma, especially when travelling for the first time. The savest option would probably be to rent an apartment or a room in a hotel, and meet the ladies on several occassions.

I travelled to Russia with a friend a few years ago (in my younger and more innocent years), we stayed in Moscow and St.-Petersburg. We weren't really on "bride-hunt", but we did date a few great girls.

I think when you focus on one girl only, there can be too much pressure on this potential relationship. And planning a seperate holiday for every girl seems like an expensive hobby.
In any relationship, the small daily habits are also important, and hard to learn online or on the phone. People tend to give socially correct answers to question about drinking, tidiness or being family oriented :)

So maybe for the first time, it can be best to travel in a group (or with a friend), so you won't depend on one girl to be your guide and interpreter. You can tell them that you'll come to Russia for a holiday, that you would like to meet her on several dates, and I think they won't ask about other girls.

But any success stories are of course welcome :)

Arie,

The more I have thought about your comments, the better I feel. I am fortunate to have a Russian/Foreign dating service in my city ( I live in Arizona). There are 2 owners, one is married, and the other is engaged to FSU women. I met them both and they appear very happy men! They have a website you probably have seen, but welcome walk ins as well. I stopped in about 5 months ago and was impressed by their professionalism, their business longevity, and most of all, they went out of their way to give me advice. At the time, I was not in the same situation I am in now with more than one woman which I would like to meet in a single trip. The value of their services will most likely save me time, money and embarassment.

I think I should drop in again and speak with the owner about the enigmatic situation I've put myself in. I really want this trip to be fun most of all and I do not want to hurt anyone's feelings. As you mentioned, I'm certain I am not the only guy the women write to, so the slight guilt I feel (I feel like I am cheating on a wife!) is reduced by the fact that they are doing the same.

Unfortunately, I have "made my bed" and will travel in late September, so a friend (Most of my male friends are married...I was married for 10 years up until 18 months ago) is out of the question. Again, having the group concept available, if needed, is a large burden lifted from me. Good sound advice; thanks. You triggered my memory of the visit to this agency. The Minsk trip is out, I suggested St. Petersburg and the Belarus woman was delighted.

Does anyone else have a success story? How about a value added comment? There has to be someone? :)

I'm afraid we can hear our own echo in this forum lately, it's pretty silent.

Good luck planning your trip. Travelling in a group will probably be a bit more expensive than travelling alone, but will indeed save you trouble, time and embarrasment.

I really don't think you should feel any guilt, during 'courtship' it's normal to have several options. I once read that as a guy you shouldn't throw yourself at the feet of a lady too soon, writing things like "I only think about you, I love you, I only write with you" (of course this doesn't mean that you can't write sweet things, but not too desperate :)).
A girl wants to feel that her catch is somebody who is wanted, interest of other girls is only a big plus. Maybe she'll initially like several guys online too, meeting her in reality can then bring a decission (and real love).

I'll be in St.-Petersburg from 9th till 18th september, if you're around, we can check one of the local cafes for a nice glass of Baltika :)

Arie,

I should be in St Petersburg right around that time. Where are you going to be after the 18th? Are you still going to be in Russia? I am waiting on the travel "agency" here in Phoenix to arrange my schedule. Airfare is locked in.

After the 18th I'll return to Holland, so it will be a short trip to visit some friends. How many days will you stay in St.-Petersburg?

Arie.

Arie and Marylin,

It looks like I will be In St Petersburg for the closing ceremony of the fountains. If I am right, I think it is 10/9...My friend stated, and I will quote, "My sister wrote that it would be great if we could to see the closing
of fountains season in St. Petersburg. My nice saw it last year and she
was impressed very much." I see the fountain ceremony also on 9/9. Regardless, I can't be there until the last week of September. I look forward to cool weather as we have had a heated Summer here.

I hope she is not thinking I am able to arrive by the 9th of September!

As things have matured, I have to tighten up my travel miles. I have discontinued the Tashkent trip, but will go to St Petersburg, Moscow, and Kazan. People are traveling to meet me at these destinations I hope :) . I just bought a new video camera for the trip. I hope that Autumn kicks in a little bit early. It would be nice to see the changing of the trees.

It looks like I will be in St Petersburg for 7 days, Moscow 7, and Kazan 4. It's too bad I will miss this dating tallk reunion!

Now on a number of reasons seems like i may not go to Peter at all :( :(

As for the fountains, i've heard the holiday will take place on Sept. 16th.

Gary, great that you'll be in Moscow. I'm living here actually so if you fancy meeting lemme know. I need to practise spoken english badly :p

Arie, will let ya know if i still come to St.Peter.

Marylin,

I can't seem to get a definitive answer on this fountain question. Maybe Arie knows. It seems like his dates in St Petersburg might coincide with this ceremony...who knows! I asked my friend in email yesterday, but I have not heard back.

As for meeting, certainly! Have you spoken to an American recently? My English might mess up your English :) We have taken this language and definitely colloquialized it!

Hi Marilyn and Gary,

I got some mixed answers about the closing of the fountains. My friend in St.-Petersburg told me that they would be closed before my arrival, but when you check the official (?) website of the Peterhof is says:

"All the fountains function from May to mid October, daily, 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m."
http://www.peterhof.org/fount/

So I hope to admire some water-spraying this year :)

It's a pity that as it looks now, we can't meet in St.-Petersburg. But maybe I'll visit Moscow as well for a few days.

Thanks Arie,

It looks like the fountains will be blasting, but I guess the ceremony will have passed...that's OK :) I leave Arizona on the 28th, and I will be in St Petersburg September 29th arriving at 1:00 pm. With the connections and layovers, I have a 20+ hour excursion. I pray it all will be worth the trip as I am very excited to see this city. I have convinced my friend from Kazan to fly to St Petes to meet there. So I have narrowed things down from 4 or 5 cities to two, whew :D I plan on staying at Corinthia Nevskij Palace Hotel. Do you have another suggestion? I want to stay center city, but I am not married to this hotel.

I'm sorry, time flies as I'm already back from beautiful St.-Peterburg. The trip was really great - to see Nevskii, the fountains at Petergof and a nice ballet in Muzorsky theater in one holiday.

To my regret, I had no time to visit Moscow, but hope to do it soon.

Hi Troon, it's probably a very good (though not cheap) hotel. Unlike Moscow, you can reach for most historical buildings by foot in Piter, so it pays to stay in the center.

By the way, I did a tour on the canals, which was also very nice, but only in Russian, so it can be handy to have a translator at hand :)

Last time, a Dutch friend and I stayed at an apartment in St.-Petersburg, on 20 minutes from the main streat (Nevskii Prospekt). That's really cheap (and cozy), but probably requires some Russian knowledge to rent it.

It's really a great city, I already miss it

Hi Arie and Marylin,

St Petersburg was more than I could have imagined. Arie, I went on the canal trip also, right around dusk, and the sights were awesome. I had a wonderful time with the women who met me there and want to go back soon. I did not fall in love though :( !!

I went alone without a tour company and had no problems. My only continous issue was converting dollars to rubles. If a dollar was worn, the banks would refuse it!! Besides that minor issue, everything went smooth. The hotel staff turned into my "buddies"!! All friendly people. I caught a cold/flu just before I left, so I went searching for a pharmacy, and as I expected, I couldn't find an American product in the pharmacy, so I tried to explain to one of the ladies behind the glass what I wanted.....It was like talking to myself.

A man approached me in the store who spoke excellent English. He said he was a doctor and would tell the pharmacist what I wanted...5 minutes later I felt much better and he and I were walking down Nevsky Prospect sharing stories about each other's country. After about 30 minutes we said our farewells. Great city, great people :)

Peterhof was awesome and who could ever imagine something like The Hermitage!

Marylin, I stayed in SP the entire time...I never made it to Moscow. Well, I hope everyone is doing great and maybe that reunion in Moscow might happen next year.

I think I will see Odessa in December...COLD!!! Do you two have experience with Ukraine?

Arie

Welcome back online, I'm glad you liked St.-Petersburg too. The girls were a bit different than you expected? Hopefully Cupid will arrive soon in Odessa.

Just imagine , you are in Kiev , all you have is a Visa card and the phucking ATM machine eats it , then what ??
Huh?

Well, you go to the counter: "Izvinite, u menya est malenkii problem..." :)

I've tried ATM-machines in several cities in Russia, and never had a problem. Of course that's no guarantee for success, but simply use it during office hours, so you can go to the employees in case something goes wrong.

Taking a big pile of dollars is also a big risk, also exchange rates are usually worse than the official ones.

uhm i will ask for a new picture while looking at my profile before getting serious about correspond with a lady :/

Arie
01-16-2007, 10:12 AM
Natalino, that's indeed a save way to do it. But I still believe that you can easily pick a scammer. If a lady is interested in you as her future husband, she'll be eager to know every detail about you, your character, how you see yourself in life, what you do in daily life.

While scammer is not that interested, she usually sticks to stories about herself, maybe an occassional question "How about you" in between.
