Hi all,

I'm new here, and I have a serious question...

Is there a preference for Americans? or does the average Brit (like me!) stand a chance? Is there a perception that life in the US is that much better than in the Western European countries?

I'd put my info on, but then I'd be advertising myself http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

hi, spire_london,

let me be short for a start. People matter, not countries. Whatever country you are from, if you're a good person, you won't be left unnoticed. Just give it a try.

It was just perception I seem to have gained in my surfing... mainly through most 'agency' websites targeting (apparently) the US.

They're targeting the bigger country, i guess, that's it http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Compare the population of the UK and the USA, where there are more unweds? BTW, you may ask liam if any agency targets new zealenders http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

g'day,

i'm not really aware if nz'ers are targeted by marriage agencies, i know theres a couple of agencies based in australia though offering 'introductions' to russian/eastern european girls. To be honest i haven't really looked too much into the 'agency' type thing, it seems from what i have read on the net theres way too many 'scammers' so knowing who to trust would be paramount. Some of those stories are pure nightmares, god help the girl who scams me to russia on a false promise of friendship only to not show. http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif . The agencies that i've seen on the net sometimes seem a bit bizzare, hundreds of girls who could easily be models seems a bit unreal, and to pay anything other than a 'nominal' amount for a girls address seems manifestly wrong, also a lot of the 'happy customer/successful marriage' pictures they show leave me feeling a little ill, '21 year old natasha from kiev finds her true love with 57 year old bill from iowa", bollocks to that, who could believe that?, yeah i'm sure it happens heaps but it shows more about the girls desperate situation and a man who is just plain sad than anything to be positive (unless your a 57 year old man, then the agency has a definately got a new customer). Just imagine it guys, you've a 21 year old daughter and she brings home a 50 odd year old man home, what are you gonna do? http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif definately http://datingtalk.info/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif .

Thankfully I'm way from becoming that sad and desperate (33 in a couple of months).

In looking through various sites, (the usual suspects), that I have come to the conclusion that the vast majority are fictional people and I find it difficult to comprehend the amounts being charged by some.

Whilst I'm not that perturbed at the prospect of travelling to visit someone I don't know 'in the flesh' (I've done that to the US many a time with net friends I've talked to), its the prospect of being ripped off.

Ironically, I was having doubts about the genuineness of the free websites on the basis that these might be even more of a scammers territory.
